favorite recipes

I missed sharing favorite recipes in October, and I still don't have a plethora for you. However, I do have one that has already become staples for us (the first one). As per usual, the images belong to the blogger of the recipe as identified below each image.

Pinch of Yum: Miracle No Kneed Bread
This bread is beautiful. And delicious. The only caveat is that you have to start it the night before you want to eat it for dinner. So you do have to plan ahead with this one. But it's worth it.

Smitten Kitchen: Apple Cider Doughnuts
The local farms do not sell fresh fried doughnuts, and I really wanted one. So I went searching, and I found this recipe. Except I fried mine in bacon grease. (Of course I did.) I made them twice, but the second time I stored some dough donuts in the freezer. Then I pulled them out to impress my brother and sister-in-law.

Simply Scratch: Cilantro Lime Rice
I make this as a side somewhat frequently, and now it…

O Christmas tree

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we attempted to get our Christmas tree. The farm opens at ten o'clock, but at 10:06am, the field/lot was full and waiting vehicles were backed up all along the road. Nevermind the line of people waiting for saws and tree carts. So we turned around with plans to return after church on Sunday. We fared much better on Sunday and now know we will never again attempt to get our tree on the first day of the season. Lesson learned.

Aaron voted for this little guy.

Lydia loved the little trees.

I think we found it!

Last year's saw was dull, so Aaron brought our own this year. Winning.

Back to the car lot.

This is our first tree to not fit in the trunk. I'm so lucky this guy loves me so well.

We spent Thanksgiving day with all of Pop-Pop's side of the family. After stuffing ourselves full of turkey and ham, we headed outside for some fresh air.

Maddie loves cows and dogs but not chickens, apparently.

I found friends to do puzzles with me - Daddy's cousin, Lindsay.

Daddy's Aunt Barb.

Everyone else was doing a white elephant game.

I also got to eat applesauce on the kitchen floor. I love Thanksgiving!

And Daddy's cousin's husband, Luke, is really funny, too.

pickup truck

Yesterday, Daddy brought the pickup truck and the wood splitter over to split the pile of wood.

Then Pop-Pop came and joined the fun.

When they were done, we ate lunch in the bed of the pickup truck. (The pickup truck lives on the farm. It used to be Great-Great-Pop-Pop's. We just borrow it every now and then.)

Plus, we took a ride across the lawn.

We are thankful for wood to burn to keep us warm in our house.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

learning to sew

I got a sewing machine for my birthday, and I've been wanting to sew something so badly. With having no school this week, we had time to sew. Mama found a pattern for me to try.

Heidi pulled out the camera to document the adventure.

Then Heidi learned how to use the self-timer to photo-bomb her own pictures. Oh, Heidi.

Ta-da! I did it!

What can I sew next?

ice cream eyes

A week with no school means a well visit for Lydia and dentist appointments for Lydia and Heidi. On Monday, we crammed them all into one morning.

Then it was time to party - like one should during an entire week without school. We used some free cone coupons. Yum.

I took pictures of eyes. Green.

leaf pile

Mr. Larry made a huge leaf pile for us on Friday!

My friend from school was here with me.

We started at the garden and ran to the pile.

Then we'd do it again and again.
