Ambitious Kitchen: Grilled Chili-Lime Fish Tacos with Sour Cream Cabbage Slaw + Mango & Avocado
I bought a box of champagne mangos on sale at Whole Foods because I love champagne mangos. (Why does Whole Foods seem to be the only grocery store that sells champagne mangos? I do not understand.) Anyway, these fish tacos are so fresh and colorful even if you only use green cabbage instead of purple (like I did).

Simply Scratch: Perfect Roasted Broccoli We love broccoli around here, and this is a regular vegetable side - in the oven in the winter or on the grill in the summer. image: Simply Scratch
The Girl Who Ate Everything: Chicken and Black Bean Enchilada Casserole
This one is an oldie but a goodie for us. Lydia inhaled this as a baby/toddler, and she still likes it. Back in 2012, my brother even enjoyed it, and he is not a fan of…

Jesse has discovered the joy of giving high fives.

I love this boy.

rest is best

This fluctuating weather is messing with our flow, and coughs and fevers abound. We even made a rare pediatrician sick visit on Monday with Lydia claiming a bilateral otitis media diagnosis (an ear infection in both ears). Lydia and Heidi have reached a new milestone: they can see-saw together without help.

free treats

Last Monday was free ice cream cone day at Dairy Queen!

We were all set to swing by Rita's on the first day of spring on Friday, but I wasn't up for shlepping everyone through the snow in our non-four-wheel-drive minivan. Plus, while it wasn't technically water ice, we had all the snow-cones we could eat right there in our lawn.

Laurie's bridal shower brunch

We are launching into a rerun of last spring where one of our brothers gets married in May. Last year it was my brother, Derek, marrying Bethany. This year it is Aaron's brother, Jon, marrying Laurie. First, there is the bridal shower. Then the new outfits for the kids appear on Easter and go back into the closet to hide until the wedding. So on Saturday, the rerun launched as we hosted the shower, a brunch with the bride, with the groom's family - aunts and cousins.

I repurposed my red polka-dot banner and opted for daffodils as available flowers this time of year. So I attempted red and yellow decor that wouldn't look like ketchup and mustard.

I grabbed some paper lanterns from Target on clearance and made some tissue paper poofs to hang with them. (I cannot make big poofs look nice, no matter how hard I try. I am only capable of making small ones. (That semi-large yellow one is a fluke. I couldn't replicate it despite numerous attempts.))

These kids are ready to par…
