Rain for Roots: Waiting Songs

My favorites - Rain for Roots - released a new album!!! We received it last week, and I think we have most of it memorized already.

The music is beautiful, and the lyrics are rich - so beautifully satisfying to a thirsty, waiting soul.

Rain for Roots advertises it this way, and it's so accurate that I'll just repost it before continuing:

"Waiting Songs is an album of Advent. These songs are about making time for waiting. The King is coming and He is already here. So we practice listening, quieting ourselves, celebrating, whispering good news, and yelling shouts of joy. In the Rain for Roots family, we practice most of all by singing to ourselves, to each other, and to our children about true things. He is coming -- the Joy of Every Longing Heart. Our longing hearts. Grown ups and children; we are the same in this. Through these songs, may God call us closer into conversation with Himself while we wait and hope with expectation. He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found."

I love this album so much already. The girls love "Isaiah 11" and "Zechariah" and I love so many songs I can't even decide which one to tell you about right now . . . "Magnificant," "Every Valley (It's Hard to Wait)," "Mary Consoles Eve" . . . I'm just going to end up listing all of the songs.

Isaiah 11 is the scripture passage put to song about the lineage of Jesse and the lion and the lamb lying down together. As we do our Jesse Tree every year, the girls are already remotely familiar with this passage. Plus, it has "Jesse" in it, so that makes it doubly exciting to them. The tune is catchy and easy to learn, but, more importantly, it puts prophecy to song for my kids (and me!) to grasp.

You should definitely get this album - even if you don't have kids. Excluding the first and last songs - which are "technically" Christmas hymns - this album will be enjoyed year round!

I'm so thankful for artists that use their gifts to put gospel truths to music. Ellie Holcomb, Sandra McCracken, Katy Bowser, and Flo Paris also do this in their individual music, but I love their collaborative effort that is Rain for Roots!

Isaiah 11: Rain for Roots

A green shoot will sprout up from Jesse
The roots will grow a budding branch
A wolf will dwell with a gentle lamb
They'll leap and play in the green, green grass

A little child will lead them
A little child will lead them
The lion and the lamb lie down together
A little child will lead them

A green shoot will sprout up from Jesse
The roots will grow a budding branch
A wolf will dwell with a gentle lamb
They’ll leap and play in the green, green grass

A little child will lead them
A little child will lead them
The lion and the lamb lie down together
A little child will lead them

[Read] On that day, Jesse's Root will be raised high,
Posted as a rallying banner for the peoples
The nations will all come to Him
His headquarters will be glorious! [Isaiah 11:10 from The Message]

A green shoot will sprout up from Jesse
A banner of love like a melody
Singing "Come back children, come back, hurry”
Singing over you, singing over me

The good, good King will lead them
The good, good King will lead them
The spirit of the Lord will rest upon Him
The good, good King will lead us
The good, good King will lead us

The lion and the lamb lie down together
The good, good King will lead us
